Sponsored by various media groups on campus, the vision of the conference is to gather journalists and media personnel from across the country for a day of networking and educational sessions.

Speak Up, Write Out is structured differently than any other conference in the area. Not only does it have a great keynote and opening speaker, Speak Up, Write Out will also feature four slots of breakout sessions, a media "science fair" where participating colleges can display their journalistic talent by creating a display full of their work, and a leadership lunch for student media leaders, including editors, station managers and publishers, where the group will compare notes and discuss relevant college journalisim issues.

The creators of the conference put a new spin on the old breakout session format. Each session slot will have three options for participants to choose from and each of those three options is be run by a panel of media professionals. All of the panel participants come from different backgrounds, levels of experience, and mediums such as print, television, radio or film.

Speak Up, Write Out provides participants with a full day of creative, innovative and entertaining events. The goal of the conference is to teach students something new, no matter what their level of experience, and to inspire and ignite a new passion in students for the world of media and journalism.

Speak Up, Write Out is free to all Gettysburg College students and offered at a very modest price to all other undergraduate students. The conference costs $5 per individual and $10 per institution and includes all materials, a continental breakfast, a boxed lunch and a free gift.
