Hotel/Motel with EC/ASECS Reserved Rooms

Located on the Square in the center of Gettysburg, the historic Gettysburg Hotel dates from 1797 when James Scott first opened his tavern. When President Lincoln spent the night in Gettysburg on 18 November 1863, he stayed at the Wills House just steps away from the hotel. President Dwight Eisenhower used the hotel as his national operations center while he recuperated from a heart attack at his nearby farm. After closing as a hotel in 1964 and after suffering a devastating fire in 1983, in 1988 through the initiative of Gettysburg college, the hotel was carefully restored in cooperation with the Historic Architectural Review board.  Opened in 1991 as the best Western Gettysburg Hotel, the new building faithfully recaptures its historic past.

The Gettysburg Hotel is holding twenty-five rooms for those attending the EC/ASECS Annual Meeting. Rates: $179 single/double and $219 suite.

Located on Chambersburg Street just a half block west of the Square, the James Gettys is a fully renovated circa 1804 historic hotel. It offers eleven tastefully appointed suites with sitting area, kitchenette, bedroom, and private bath. It is within easy walking distance of the Gettysburg College campus.

An award winning motel, the Quality Inn at General Lee’s Headquarters is located along Route 30 on the historic Seminary Ridge. From its front lawn one looks over the fields and woods where the clash between the two armies began. General Lee’s Headquarters, now a civil war museum, stands on the motel’s property. Directly across Buford Avenue [US Rt. 30 West] lies the Lutheran Theological Seminary, captured by the confederate troops during the battle and now offers a picturesque place to walk and to view the town of Gettysburg. The motel is a short drive from the College.

Situated next to the entrance to the National Military Park on Steinwehr Avenue [US Business Rt. 15 South] the Quality Inn Gettysburg Motor Lodge offers large, well decorated rooms and easy access to the battlefield, some rooms, in fact, opening onto the National Park. The Gettysburg Motor Lodge is "across town" from Gettysburg College, but the route is direct and the drive short and easy.

Directly across the street from the Gettysburg National Military Park’s entrance, America’s Best Inn has been recently renovated and offers some allergy-free "Evergreen" rooms. Occupants of either American’s Best Inn or Quality Inn Gettysburg Motor Lodge are within easy walking distance to the Copse of Trees along the Union’s lines, the site of the climatic end of Pickett’s Charge.

Located a half block east of the Square, this inn, a restored 1786 stone house, is the oldest residence in the borough and is on the National Registry of Historic Places. The fourteen rooms and suites all have private baths. The Brafferton Inn is within easy walking distance of Gettysburg College.

A lovely and well appointed inn, The Gaslight Inn offers large rooms, some with fireplaces and Jacuzzis, in a large residence with porches, patios, and gardens. Located on East Middle Street, it is half a block from the historic Adams County Courthouse on Baltimore Street, which is one block south of the Square. It is within easy walking distance of Gettysburg College.

A late Victorian brick house with a leaded glass front door and a high columned wrap around front porch, the Keystone Inn also features an oak and chestnut staircase which reaches the third floor. It has five rooms with private baths. The inn is within easy walking distance of the east fields and woods of the battlefield, a lovely area for morning or evening walks. The College is within short driving distance.

A beautifully restored inn filled with antiques and civil was memorabilia, The Doubleday Inn is located on the battlefield. From its site on Oak Ridge a visitor has panoramic views of the battlefields, the College, and the town. It is also within easy walking distance of the Peace Light and is a very short drive from the inn to Gettysburg College.

Located on Baltimore Street, a short distance from The Holiday Inn Battlefield, The Brickhouse Inn is a restored 1898 brick Victorian house. It is within easy walking distance of the Gettysburg National Cemetery and the Cemetery Ridge part of the battlefield. The College is a short and easy drive from the inn.

Located next to the historic 1776 Dobbin House, these civil war era houses filled with antiques overlook the site where Abraham Lincoln delivered his Gettysburg Address. All nine guest rooms have private baths and breakfast is served in Dobbin House Tavern. The Inn is named after a location reference Rev. Alexander Dobbin, the builder of The Dobbin House, wrote in 1787 on a marriage certificate, the first time the town name was so written.  The drive from the Dobbin House to the College is a short one.

This lovely, quiet inn is located in the country on spacious grounds at the edge of the battlefield. Built in c.1812, the inn served as a Civil War Hospital during and after the battle. Each room has a private bath. Baladerry Inn is a very short distance off the Baltimore Pike [Rt. 97], which provides a straight route to the College.

Established in 1815, this inn located on Herr’s Ridge served as the first Confederate Hospital. Most of the seventeen rooms have both fireplace and Jacuzzi. The Inn has both a restaurant and a lounge. It is approximately a mile and a half from the borough, but the drive to the College campus is easy and direct.
