Located on the Square in the center of Gettysburg, the historic Gettysburg Hotel dates from 1797 when James Scott first opened his tavern. When President Lincoln spent the night in Gettysburg on 18 November 1863, he stayed at the Wills House just steps away from the hotel. President Dwight Eisenhower used the hotel as his national operations center while he recuperated from a heart attack at his nearby farm. After closing as a hotel in 1964 and after suffering a devastating fire in 1983, in 1988 through the initiative of Gettysburg college, the hotel was carefully restored in cooperation with the Historic Architectural Review board. Opened in 1991 as the best Western Gettysburg Hotel, the new building faithfully recaptures its historic past.

Located on Baltimore Street, the Holiday Inn is just a short walk from The National Cemetery and Cemetery Hill, which saw action on the second day of the battle. President Lincoln rode by this site on his way to the dedication of the cemetery on 19 November 1863. He past it again as he rode north on Baltimore Street to attend a prayer service in the Presbyterian Church immediately following the dedication. Next to the Inn is the Jennie Wade House, in which Jennie Wade was struck by a stray bullet during a skirmish in the town and became the only civilian killed in the Battle of Gettysburg. The Holiday Inn Gettysburg Battlefield is the winner of the Quality Excellence Award. A few blocks south of the Square, the Inn is a short drive to the College.

Situated next to the entrance to the National Military Park on Steinwehr Avenue [US Business Rt. 15 South] the Quality Inn Gettysburg Motor Lodge offers large, well decorated rooms and easy access to the battlefield, some rooms, in fact, opening onto the National Park. The Gettysburg Motor Lodge is "across town" from Gettysburg College, but the route is direct and the drive short and easy.

Located next to the historic 1776 Dobbin House, these civil war era houses filled with antiques overlook the site where Abraham Lincoln delivered his Gettysburg Address. Alexander Dobbin, the builder of The Dobbin House, wrote in 1787 on a marriage certificate, the first time the town name was so written. The drive from the Dobbin House to the College is a short one.

This lovely, quiet inn is located in the country on spacious grounds at the edge of the battlefield. Built in c.1812, the inn served as a Civil War Hospital during and after the battle. Each room has a private bath. Baladerry Inn is a very short distance off the Baltimore Pike [Rt. 97], which provides a straight route to the College.

Established in 1815, this inn located on Herr’s Ridge served as the first Confederate Hospital. Most of the seventeen rooms have both fireplace and Jacuzzi. The Inn has both a restaurant and a lounge. It is approximately a mile and a half from the borough, but the drive to the College campus is easy and direct.
