There will be several undergraduate seminars running this semester. Details are below.
Boris Mezhericher will be running a seminar on "Elliptic Curves and Cryptography"
Mondays from 5:30-7pm in Mathematics 528.
Detailed Description: We will discuss the theory of elliptic curves, focusing on
elliptic curves over finite fields. Cryptographic applications of elliptic curves, such
as public key encryption, digital signatures, factoring and primality testing,
will also be explored.
Ming-Lun Hsieh will lead one seminar on Various Topics In
Algebra. Topics will include abelian extensions of imaginary quadratic fields,
fundamental groups, and finite dimensional central algebras over a field. This seminar
will meet on Tuesdays from 5:30-7 in Math 520.
Ming-Lun will lead another seminar on local class field theory and
Serre's GAGA. This seminar will meet on Mondays from 4:15-5:45 in Math 520.
