Stinsford St. Michael's Church, the Mellstock Church of Under the Greenwood Tree. 

Much of the church dates to the early 13th century, with a number of later additions and

alterations.  Like his forefathers, Hardy attended this church throughout his life.  Many

members of the Hardy family, including Thomas Hardy's grandparents, parents, aunts,

uncles, and cousin are buried in Stinsford churchyard.  Both of Hardy's wives, Emma

Lavinia Hardy (1840-1912) and Florence Emily Hardy (1879-1937) are buried here as well.

While Hardy's remains rest in Poet's Corner, Westminster Abbey, his heart lies in the grave

of his two wives.
